Mt Kaputar
Never heard of Mt Kaputar before but with over 1500 meters it is the highest mountain between the western side of the Great Dividing Range and Africa I read. It's northeast of Narrabri in New South Wales, Australia and was formed about 17 million years ago after a vulcano stopped and the soil around it eroded over time. Some of the rock underneath is dated at about 230 million years...About 100 km's south is the Warrumbungle National Park, which is much more popular, but Mt Kaputar has similar breathtaking scenery. Damian and I went to have a look in the middle of winter, when no-one goes because of the freezing temperatures so we basically had the place to ourselves. First night camping was great. In swag on back of the ute, without a cover over the ute. Yes it rained and we got drenched. Beautiful misty and wet morning after. Lucky we could find a caravan park with cabin in Coonabarabran where we could dry ourselves and our gear. Here are more pictures we took of Mt Kaputar.
